Phyllis E. Anderson, 90, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Oct. 7, 1915, in Rockford, she was the daughter of Swan and Eva (Lavine) Swanson. She married John Milton "Milt" Anderson on Sept. 16, 1939, in Rockford.
Phyllis graduated from Rockford Central High School and then embarked on a working career of some 70 years. She worked at a patent lawyer's office for the U.S. Conservation Service and as an office manager for several businesses, retiring at the age of 86. Most notable of her jobs were her 40 years as an office manager for Virgil Cook & Sons in DeKalb.
In the early 1950s, she and her family moved to DeKalb, where she would spend the rest of her life. Her family was the center of her life. Phyllis was totally supportive of her family. She always had time to spend when anyone was in need. She thought of everyone else before herself. She had a strong, vibrant, positive spirit. She was funny and kind and generous. She made everyone's life she touched better. Phyllis appreciated the many wonderful friends she had over the years. Her family is so grateful for the life they shared with her and is going to miss her. One of the last things she said was, "I'm so lucky, I have such a wonderful family."
She is survived by two sons, Dan (Joan Nugent) Anderson of Madison, Wis., and John Anderson of DeKalb; two granddaughters, Kristin (Layne McIntosh) of Seattle, Wash., and Robin (Andrew Kudless) of Columbus, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Eva.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Milt.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Anderson Funeral Home Ltd. in DeKalb. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
