Richard S. "Dick" Berkley, 95, of Genoa, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Born Sept. 3, 1914, in Genoa, the son of Alfred and Christina (Dodson) Berkley, he married Evelyn L. Hill on July 2, 1938.
A 1933 graduate of Genoa High School, Dick worked as a steam fitter and plumber for Northern Illinois University for more than 20 years. Dick will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends.
Dick is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Rodney) Beck of York, Pa., and Diane (James) Blotz of Madison, Wis; four grandchildren, Scott E. Dobbeck and Mark R. Dobbeck, both of York, Pa., and John R. (Charlotte) Blotz and Lisa R. (Brad) Coleman, both of Madison, Wis.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 2006; one grandson, Steven John Dobbeck; one brother, Roy; and one sister, Eunice Wahl.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Genoa Cemetery, with the Rev. Lisa Kruse-Safford of Cornerstone United Methodist Church of Plato Center officiating. Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Friday at the local family-owned and -operated Slater-Butala Funeral Home of Genoa.
