DeKALB – Sheila Ruth Adkinson, 88, of DeKalb, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at home.

Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Shabbona, the daughter of Orville and Bernice (Fleenor) Johnson, Sheila married William Cecil "Bill" Adkinson on Feb. 1, 1947, in DeKalb.

During World War II, Sheila served as part of the Women's Auxiliary Support patrol. She was employed as a secretary for 20 years at Northern Illinois University and later as a Realtor at Adolph Miller Agency for several years. Sheila was a member of First Baptist Church of DeKalb.

She is survived by her children, the Rev. Rodger (Elaine) Adkinson of Willow Springs, Mo., Douglas Adkinson of DeKalb, Kathy Hartness of DeKalb and Janice (Bill) Bolen of Morehead, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Johnson of DeKalb; sisters, Orva (Dan) Carson of Maple Park and Bernice Gore of Kennewick, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on Oct. 12, 2012; son, John; son-in-law, Greg Hartness; and great-granddaughter, Collette.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at First Baptist Church, 349 S. Third St., DeKalb, with her son, the Rev. Rodger Adkinson of First General Baptist Church, Willow Springs, Mo., officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb.
