Sylvia F. Anderson, 87, of Malta, Ill., passed away, Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Shabbona Health Care Center in Shabbona after a short bout with cancer.
Born Sept. 2, 1919, in Salem, Ind., she was the daughter of Robert and Jessie (Applegate) Lockenour. She was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb and was a lifelong member. She married Merrill Anderson on Oct. 12, 1940, and they were happily married for 63 years before Merrill passed away on Oct. 2, 2003.
Sylvia was not only a homemaker who loved to cook, bake and sew, she also helped her husband farm. Sylvia loved to tend a vegetable garden and shared her bounty with many of her friends and family members.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Denny) Stehl of Lee, Shirley (Raymond) Rohrer of Malta and Marilyn (Jan) Masilunis of Port Orange, Fla.; three sons, Ross (Nancy) Anderson of Mendota Heights, Minn., Marlin (Ann) Anderson and Merlin (Betty) Anderson, both of Malta; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Verina Anderson of Malta; a sister-in-law, Sadie Lunn of DeKalb; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Merrill; three brothers, Kenneth, Garriott, and Lloyd Lockenour; one sister, Margaret Smith; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2007, at the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, with Rev. Marilyn Hanson officiating. Burial will follow services at Malta Cemetery in Malta. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2007, at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
