LARRY C. JOHNSON

1948 - 2010

Larry C. Johnson, 61, of Shabbona, Ill., died Wednesday March 3, 2010, at the scene of an automobile accident in Afton Township in rural DeKalb County.
Larry was born April 13, 1948, in DeKalb, the son of Ernest E. and Beatrice I. (George) Johnson. He graduated from Shabbona High School in 1966 and went to work in DeKalb at Spaulding Corp. after high school. Larry then went to work for Babson Farms and Joe Barshinger in rural Shabbona and worked with Joe for many years.
For many years Larry was the official scorekeeper for both boys and girls basketball games at Shabbona High School and later at Indian Creek High School. He coached many sports teams in Shabbona and was the official timer at the Shabbona Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby. He played baseball in a baseball league in Rollo for many years and enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include his mother, Bea Johnson of Shabbona; a son, Brad (Jeanne) Johnson of Union, Mo.; two daughters, Kim (Brian) Keisler of Somonauk and Connie Hoyle (fiance, Todd Bright) of Fayetteville, Ga.; his twin sister, Linda (Charles) Hickey of Somonauk; a brother, Roger Johnson of Shabbona; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler and Shelby Johnson, Katelin, Brice and Kiley Keisler, Gabriel Johnson and Lexi Hoyle; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; and two brothers, Ron and Robert "Elrod."
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Shabbona United Church of Christ, with the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shabbona. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
A memorial is being established.
