ALPHA E. FLEETWOOD Obituary
SYCAMORE – Alpha E. Fleetwood, 77, of Sycamore, Ill., left this life Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb, when her wonderful, loving heart just wore out.
Born April 26, 1936, in Bunker, Mo., to Lawrence and Anna Lee, Alpha followed her family from Missouri to Sycamore during her teenage years where she attended Sycamore High School. She married and had only one child, a daughter, Lauranna Gones, and was very close to her brothers and sisters and their families.
In 1979, she married Robert Fleetwood of Sycamore. Over the years, Alpha worked at Diamond Wire & Cable Co., Duplex Products and Automatic Electric in Genoa. She was a longtime member of the Sycamore Moose Lodge and was an elected officer of the College of Regents with the Sycamore Women of the Moose organization.
She enjoyed playing bingo at the Sycamore Veteran's Club and going to casinos to play the penny slot machines. She and Robert traveled the United States in their fifth-wheel trailer visiting family and friends all over the country.
Alpha is survived by her husband, Robert Fleetwood; daughter, Lauranna (Steve) Gones of Sycamore; stepchildren, Kevin (Emily ) of Washington, Wayne (Cindy) of Shabbona, Brent (Maureen) Fleetwood of Colorado and Shaun Fleetwood of Sycamore; grandchildren, Lacey (John) Lantz and Andrew Gones; step-grandchildren Grant, Scott, Carole, Madilyn and Morgan Fleetwood, and Arielle, Shelby and Samantha Gaul; great-grandchildren, Kairi and Keely Lantz; brothers, Lindle (Cindy) Lee of North Carolina and Louie Lee of Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alpha was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Irene Tune, Geneva Young, Wilma Haeffner, Thelma Lee, Ilene Stover, Ellene Hall and Hellen Lee; and two brothers, Burnis and Eugene Lee.
The visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore. A Women of the Moose ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Alpha's name to the Mooseheart Children's Home in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
