1926 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
SYCAMORE – Father Andrew J. Plesa, 87, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Kindred Care Center in Sycamore, after a long illness. He was born on March 11, 1926, to Andrew and Mary (Bolen) Plesa, in Chicago.

Before attending seminary, he served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant during World War II, attended Northwestern University, Evanston, and Saint John's University, Collegeville, Minn. He then attended St. Mary Seminary, Baltimore, Md., and was ordained May 26, 1956, by Bishop Martin McNamara at St. Joseph Church in Aurora.

Father's first assignment was as parochial vicar, St. Peter Church in Spring Grove, Ill., 1956-1958. He was then assigned as parochial vicar, St. Joseph Church in Elgin, 1958-1961; parochial vicar, Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford, 1961-1965; parochial vicar, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Aurora, 1965-1969; pastor, Sacred Heart Church, Aurora, 1969-1975; pastor, SS Peter & Paul Church, Cary, 1975-1988; dean of the McHenry Deanery, 1984-1987; pastor, St. Peter Church in Spring Grove, 1988-2001; Diocesan Consultor, 1995-1999, and retired in July 2001. Father was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

Father Plesa is survived by his nephews Stephen Plesa and Mitchell Healy, of Costa Mesa, Calif., John Plesa (April Pruitt), of St. Petersburg, Fla.; niece Carolyn Plesa, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; cousin Eva Berkes, of DeKalb; devoted cousins who served as bedside caregivers – Jane (Bill) Lawson, Janet (Steve Duchrow) Berkes, Joan (Gary) Hanson and Julie (Greg Sullivan) Berkes; special brother priests and all the presbyterate. Father was predeceased by his parents, brother Michael and sister Mitzie.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 26, at St. Mary Church, 329 Pine Street, DeKalb, Ill., at 11 a.m. The Most Rev. David J. Malloy, bishop of Rockford, will be the main celebrant. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45AM at the church before Mass.

Burial will take place immediately following Mass at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb with full military honor guard provided by the DeKalb American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and AmVets. To send an online condolence visit: www.ronanmoorefinch.com.
