1926 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
SANDY, Utah – George Manos, 86, of Sandy, Utah, formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.
Born George Kostandopoulos on Dec. 3, 1926, in Kalo Gerais, Greece, the son of Nicholaos and Konstandina (Kosearas) Kostandopoulos, George was raised in Katsarou, Greece. He came to the United States at age 25 to live with his maternal uncle Christos and aunt Panagiota Manos, and adopted the surname Manos.
Shortly after he arrived, George met and fell in love with Alexandria Petros. They were married Nov. 11, 1951, in DeKalb. They raised their three children: Panayota "Patty," Christos and Nikolette "Niki" in DeKalb.
He was a partner at the original Uptown restaurant and went on to own and operate the Sea Breeze, and eventually George's Manor in Clare and Rochelle. George was involved with AHEPA, the Order of the Moose and he was one of the founders of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in DeKalb.
He and Alexandria moved to Arizona in 1986, to Oregon in 1992, and later to Utah, where they both spent the rest of their days near their daughter Niki and her family.
He passed away in the loving arms of his son-in-law Andy and into the arms of his Lord.
He is survived by his children, Panayota (Vasili) Keramidis of Loveland, Colo., Christos Manos of Piercy, Calif., and Niki (Andy) Pazell of Sandy, Utah; grandchildren, Anastasis and George Keramidis, Jessica and Alexander Manos and Alexa and Nickolas Pazell; great-grandchildren, Kalyca and Nico Keramidis, and Vasili, Liam and Lydia Keramidis; special nephew, Fotis Rigopoulos; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alexandria; parents, Nicholaos and Konstandina; brother, Panagioti; sisters, Georgia and Evdokia; uncle and aunt, Christos and Panagiota Manos; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, DeKalb, with Father John Artemas officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
