GEORGE R. "RUSS" CARR Obituary
SYCAMORE – George Russell "Russ" Carr, 85, of Sycamore, Illinois, formerly of Malta, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.
Born June 6, 1929, in Cortland, the son of Bert and Edna Mae (Myers) Carr, Russ married Betty Jean Zeiler on April 24, 1953, in Billings, Montana.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict, Russ was stationed in San Diego from 1949 to 1952. Russ was a plumber at Northern Illinois University for more than 20 years and was a member of Malta Methodist Church. He was involved in Scouting as a scout master and a Silver Beaver Award winner. A former member of Malta Lions Club, Russ currently was a member of DeKalb Elks, being active in its Bingo games.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Debra (Dale) Benson of DeKalb; son, Tim Carr of Miami, Florida; grandchildren, Brett (Ashley) and Andrew (Lindsey); great-grandchildren, Elliott, Olivia and Emmett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bert, Earl and Elmer; and sisters, Olive and Beulah.
The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, July 5, at Malta Methodist Church, South Third and Sprague streets, Malta, with the Rev. Dr. Noah Panlilio officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Rest Cemetery, Cortland, with full military honors by American Legion, AmVets and VFW. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
