MINONK – John V. O'Meara, 95, of Minonk, Ill., formerly of DeKalb, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Flanagan Rehabilitation & Health Care in Flanagan.|
John was born May 20, 1917, in Ireton, Iowa, the son of James E. and Joanna M. Downs O'Meara, he married Mary Manley on Nov. 27, 1954, in Minonk; she died in 2005.
John was one of the youngest of 16 children. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb. He graduated from the University of Iowa and worked as a physical therapist and later became a hospital administrator. He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy Air Force during World War II.
Surviving is his brother; sisters-in-law; caregivers, Don and Erma Manley of Minonk; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk with the Rev. Hans Flondor OFM Conv. celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Minonk. There will be no visitation.
Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, is assisting the family with arrangements.
