SYCAMORE – Lowell Edward ""Ed"" Collings, 92, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. |
Born March 26, 1922, in Underwood, Indiana, the son of Jesse and Laura (Everhart) Collings, Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Jane B. Bischoff on Sept. 8, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland. Ed worked for Duplex in Sycamore for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, enjoyed motorcycle trips and boating.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Dale) McBride of Sycamore; and grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Severson, Sherri (Gary) Larson, Nicole (Richard) Lang, Sharalyn (Gene) Kowitz, Ryan Severson (Annie), Luke Lee, Ethan Kowitz, Abigail Severson and Amber Gundersen, all of Sycamore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2009; great-great-grandson, Austin Lee; two brothers; and one sister.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thakkar and the staff at Pine Acres Care Center for their care and support.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. A private family visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Sycamore United Methodist Church.
