MAPLE PARK – Roger Dean Jones, 57, of Maple Park, Ill., died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at home, with his wife at his side.
Born April 27, 1956, in Dexter, Missouri, the son of Robert and Aileen (Brown) Jones, Roger married Geraldine Lynn (Reese) Gardner on Dec. 9, 1995, in Huntington, Ind.
Roger took great pride in his sales job at WMS in Geneva, where he worked for almost 12 years, forming close bonds with his customers and co-workers. For many years, he was employed as plant manager at Huntington Electric, and later at RTW, Janesville, Wis.
Always the showman, he had a karaoke business and was former owner of Big Dawg's Pub & Grill in Maple Park.
Roger was a major fan of Notre Dame, the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Bengals and NASCAR.
He was an avid golfer and was a member of DeKalb Elks and Sandwich Moose clubs. Roger loved his family, his friends, meeting new people and will be forever remembered for his good sense of humor and storytelling.
He is survived by his wife, Geri Lynn; children, Rob (Dena) Jones of Huntington, Eric Jones of Indiana, Brandy (Mike) Murray of Beloit, Wis., and Mandy Kreinz of Hinckley; eight grandchildren, Colby, Cooper, Emily, Connor, Brendan, Tyler, MaKenna and Dawson; brothers, Darrell "Doc" Walker of Huntington and Steve (Carol) Walker of Wabash, Indiana; mother-in-law, June Sather of Sugar Grove; in-laws, William (Jenna) Warren of Pensacola, Fla., Penny Warren of Janesville and Daniel (Stephanie) Sather of St. Charles; his beloved Aunt Jo of Janesville; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Larry Haler of Hinckley; and lifelong friend, Bob Smith of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
No formal services will be held because Roger was a firm believer in celebrating life, not mourning death. An informal get-together will be held at a later date.
Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Huntington. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory, DeKalb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Roger D. Jones Memorial Fund, sent in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
