Amy Polzin Obituary
Amy Polzin

Born: January 13, 1955

Died: June 25, 2018

Amy Polzin died from cancer on June 25, 2018. A shining light in the world has gone out. Loving daughter, sister, wife, stepmother and aunt; friend to all, enemy of none; wise counselor and keen observer; lover of nature, a good joke and great music... and true-blue fan of the Chicago Cubs .

Born on January 13, 1955 in Wausau, Wisconsin, Amy was the daughter and third of four children of the late Robert L. Polzin and Ruth E. (Flum) Polzin.

She is survived by her husband, William Koehring; and stepsons, Andrew (Amanda Howell) and Paul. She is also survived by her mother, and brothers and their wives, Mike and Patty (Fajman), Mark and Annette (Jason) and Tom and Claudia (McFadden); four nephews, Tom, Mike, Rob and Rich; and a niece, Ava.

Amy graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1987 and worked in the Geology Department as office manager from 1988 until 2014 when she retired.

Amy has always believed strongly in public service, fair play, good fellowship and giving to others. She has been an active and enthusiastic member and booster of the communities of DeKalb and Kirkland, where she has lived for the past 12 years. Amy has long been a member of Kishwaukee Kiwanis and Kirkland Lions Club. Politically active always, Amy served eight years on the DeKalb City Council and has served on a wide variety of boards and commissions. She received the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce's Athena Award in 2012.

Amy Polzin made a difference everywhere she was and she deeply affected the lives of everyone she touched. She will be missed by all and remembered forever.

At her request, memorial contributions may be made to the Voluntary Action Center Meals on Wheels (www.vacdk.com), or donor's choice.

Services will be private. Her friends and family will schedule a good-old-fashioned "foot-stompin" celebration sometime in the near future.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to: Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115, (815) 758-3841.
