DeKALB – Betty Jean Wright, 65, of DeKalb, Ill., was called home by her Lord Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.|
Born March 11, 1948, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of T.C. and Willie Mae (Conlley) Wright, Betty was the oldest of four siblings, whom she nurtured and cared for throughout their childhood. She relocated to Chicago in 1963.
In June 1972, Betty married Charlie Frank White, who helped her in raising her children, Jerry, Bobby and Shawana.
During the majority of her young adulthood, she worked for the GTE Corporation in the wire division. After her division closed, she became a certified nursing assistant, working at various nursing homes and hospitals around the Chicagoland area.
In 2006, Betty moved to DeKalb and became a member of The Rock Christian Church, under the leadership of her son, Pastor Jerry Wright, who baptized her. Betty proudly served as head usher, coordinator of the Kitchen Ministry and coordinator of Communion.
Betty was a strong, passionate and family-oriented woman. She enjoyed hosting family picnics, completing jigsaw puzzles, collecting magnets from different parts of the world and displaying family portraits. She was the anchor of the family.
Betty took on some of life's most difficult challenges when her health began to decline.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Shawana of Chicago; sons, Bobby (Jenny) of Sedalia, Mo., and Jerry (Tracey) of DeKalb; brother, T.C. (Pamela); sister, Barbara; 16 grandchildren, Marcqus (Tawanna), Latatia, Jason (Jaclyn), Jeremy, Justin, Jawanza, Janay, Jeremiah, Janiya, LaTausha (Andre), Charles, Troy, Calvin, Christopher, Ashley and Raven; 14 great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Mariah, Malia, MaKayla, Orlando Jr., Jayden, Elijah, Andre Jr., Ashley, Kyriyon, Kobe, Joshua, Armand and Amayah; four nephews, Freddie, Freeman, T.C. and Timothy; five nieces, Sheba, Princess, Barbara, Angel and Dorothy; and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Thomas; and infant sons, Kenny and Demetrius.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at The Rock Christian Church, 300 E. Taylor St., DeKalb, with the Pastor Leroy Mitchell of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, DeKalb, officiating. Her son, Pastor Jerry Wright will be the Eulogist. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
