David S. Kennedy, 87, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Thursday, June 28, 2018, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

He was born September 29, 1930, in DeKalb, the son of Thomas and Mabel (Ferguson) Kennedy. David was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an electrician by Barber Greene for 35 years, and previously worked for Halverson Implement. David was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church. He could easily be found "just tinkering"; enjoyed driving his antique Studebaker; and was a frequent visitor to Ollie's with his granddaughter.

He is survived by his son, Thomas (Theresa) Kennedy of DeKalb; daughter, Carrie (Jorge) Valencia of Davie, Florida; his nine grandchildren, Randi, Josh, Kayleigh, Anthony, Kristen, Thomas II, Kyle, Kolby and Kameron; six great-grandchildren; "big sister", Nancy Young of Lake Zurich, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-brother, William "Bud" McCann; and brother-in-law, Earl Young.

The Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Grace Free Lutheran Church, 1121 South 1st Street, DeKalb, with the Rev. Michael Hodge officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Oak Mound Cemetery, Somonauk, Illinois, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services, Sunday, July 1, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the David S. Kennedy Memorial Fund, addressed to the Kennedy Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
