Eldon J. Mathey, 88, of Sycamore died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Kindred Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 31, 1929 in Hinckley, IL. to Morris and LeOra (Troeger) Mathey. He married Donna Johnson on April 25, 1953 in Sycamore.

Eldon was a Mason Contractor for over 40 years and worked for many local contractors in the area. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local, receiving his 50 year Gold Card.

He was an avid sports fan, especially liking to watch the Chicago Bulls play. He loved visiting with his great grandchildren and listening to country music that was played and sung by Craig and Hanna.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; his children, Craig (Joyce) Mathey, Douglas (Kristina) Mathey and Julie Terhark (Mike Bacon); six grandchildren, Mary Mathey Valdez (Edward Valdez); Hanna Mathey, John Eldon Mathey (fiance'- Ciara Ihm); Erika (Jeremy) Day, Brandon (Jessie) Hafer and Dylan (Mikala) Hafer; 5 great grandchildren, Liam and Levi Mathey, Landon, Austin and Maisie Hafer; 4 siblings, Norma (Kenneth) Clarner, Larry (Alice) Mathey, Lois Cullison and Francis "Fuz" (Diane) Mathey; 4 step brothers, Clem Zang, Cletis Zang, Richard Zang and Mike Zang; one step sister, Mary Hindenburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Oscar Zang; one sister, Mary Lou Brink; and one brother, Albert "Rabbit" Mathey.

His visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore and from 10:00-11:00 AM on Monday. A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, June 11th at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to the family to be determined for different charities- in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.
