George L. Hayward, 89, of Sycamore died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.

He was born on August 23, 1929. He serviced in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and within two years he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

George was the owner/operator of Sparrow Sheet Metal in Sycamore for over 40 years. He worked until the age of 69. He was an avid gunsmith/ shooter and loved riding his motorcycle with his many dear friends.

He was a life long member of the Sycamore Elks, Sycamore Moose and VFW. Every morning he would meet his friends at McDonald's to talk about the daily happenings and he would always humor them with his witty sense of humor.

Survivors include his daughter, Roberta Morgan; step-son, Tim (Ellie) Rains; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his good friend and great nephew, Tom "Big Foot" Harris; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Margaret, Flossie, Marie, Teenie, Tweet, Bip and John.

His visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.

His funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 1st at 11:00 AM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. with Rev. James Freund officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore.
