1933 - 2012 | Obituary Condolences
DeKALB – James M. Barr, 79, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.
Born March 22, 1933, at St. Mary Hospital in DeKalb, the son of Henry T. and Margaret Eva (Hart) Barr, Jim was married to the former Janet A. Walter on April 19, 1958, at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb.
Jim was a farmer on his family farm, worked 20 years for the DeKalb School District in the custodial department and also was a mechanic for DeKalb Implement for seven years. He lived his entire life in the DeKalb community. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956 during the Korean conflict, serving in Germany. Jim was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, helping with RCIA, Eucharistic ministry, and was an altar server for many years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim graduated from St. Mary's Grade School, and then graduated from DeKalb Township High School in the Class of 1952.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of DeKalb; sons, James H. Barr of DeKalb and Charles (Julie) Barr of DeKalb; daughters, Cynthia (Glen) Pesigan of St. Louis, Mary (Randy) Wilder of Leaf River and Lisa Phelps of DeKalb; grandchildren, Christopher, Heather Pesigan, Michael, Amy Wilder, Budd and Coltin Phelps; brother, Robert (Jean) Barr; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Smith.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with the Rev. Kenneth Anderson celebrating. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for a memorials to be established at a later date.
