1933 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
SYCAMORE – Lester G. "Les" Flanigan, 80, of DeKalb, Ill., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Lincolnshire Place, Sycamore.
Born May 18, 1933, in Streator, the son of Lester and Fern (Westerbeck) Flanigan, Les married Shirley M. Sellers on April 24, 1955 in Grand Ridge.
Lester graduated from Streator Township High School and received his associate degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War aboard the USS Waller. Les was formerly employed by Amana Refrigeration and Kallal Sheet Metal, and later he was a pipe fitter; he was the founder and owner of Holiday Hour RV in Cortland for 41 years and his family continues to operate the business.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Robin (Robert) Meadows of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Rod (Michele) Flanigan of Kearney, Neb., Rick (Lisa) Flanigan of Sycamore; grandchildren, Larry VanGorder, Leslee Koeppel, Trenden (Kaylynn) Flanigan, Sydney Flanigan, Jenny, Jill and Jeff Flanigan, Danielle and Christopher Fullmer; great-grandchildren, Tobin, Tanner and Taylor VanGorder, Faith Koeppel, Kaden Flanigan; brother-in-laws, Norman ( Sarah) Sellers and George Hash.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Hash.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb with the Rev. Harold Grafe officiating with full military honors by DeKalb County Honor Guard after services. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday at River View Cemetery, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Anderson Funeral Home.
