LYLE JACOBSON Obituary

Lyle Jacobson, longtime Longmont, Colo., resident, died peacefully on Jan. 4, 2011, in his sleep surrounded by his family.
He was a Lee, Ill., farm boy and remained one in his heart for his entire life. He shared his love of American history with everyone he spoke to and saw everyone he met as his friend. He was a kind, loving and gentle husband and father. He passed on his love for chocolate and his inquisitive spirit to his daughter and his love of football to his son. Lyle was a loyal Illini, a 1935 graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Commerce Law. He was a delegate from Illinois in the first government internship program in Washington, D.C., and served at the Pentagon with the U.S. Navy during World War II. His entire working career after the war was with Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and AT&T – he was a member of and one-time president of the telephone company Pioneers. He raised his family in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and lived there for many years. His family will miss him always, but consider themselves fortunate to have had him in their lives.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carroll; daughter, Karen (Barry) Poulson; son, Gary (Ruth) Jacobson; seven grandchildren and their spouses; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dorothy Griffith of Lee.
Private family services will be held, with cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Longmont, Colo.; 303-776-2313. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to send condolences.
