MARGARET HEAL SASMAN Obituary

Margaret "Mardy" E. Gunderson Heal Sasman died May 28, 2011, at home peacefully in her sleep.
Mardy was born in DeKalb on Feb. 16, 1927, to John and Edith Mary (Kelly) Gunderson. When Mardy was two weeks old, the family moved to the Kelly family farm near Maple Park. She lived there until she married Clifford Heal, and they moved to his grandfather's farm near Esmond. When they left the farm, they moved to Geneva, later to Elgin and then ultimately to Scottsdale, Ariz. Cliff passed away in 1984. In 1991, Mardy moved back to Elgin, and in 1996, to Wheaton. It was there she met and married Robert (Bob) Sasman. Shortly after they married, they had a house built in Aurora where they lived until 2009 when they moved to Geneva.
Mardy worked various places as a secretary, bookkeeper and administrative assistant. She enjoyed selling jewelry and Indian artifacts in Old Scottsdale at an Indian store. Other than her family, her greatest love and rewards were working with her philanthropic sorority, Sigma Phi Gamma. Mardy held many positions in the sorority including international president.
She leaves her beloved husband, Bob; daughter, Diane (Thomas) Peterson of Elgin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) McLellan of Austin, Texas, Erik (Laura Russell, fiancée) Peterson of Chicago and Carin (Brad) Masel of Elgin; and two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Duncan McLellan. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Montgomery; and brother, John W. Gunderson. Other survivors are Bob's children, Gary Sasman of Spring Valley, Dean (Kim) Sasman of Buffalo Grove and Marcia (Steve) DeLaRosa of Villa Park; and grandson, Hudson DeLaRosa. She will also be missed by her many friends and sorority sisters across the United States and Canada.
She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Clifford F. Heal; son, Roger Dale Heal; and her cousin, Ellen Schranz, whom her parents raised.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at noon Saturday, June 11, at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva, followed by a light luncheon. Burial of the cremated remains will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 8111 N. Stadium Drive, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77054, in honor of her granddaughter, Jennifer.

Mardy was very sweet woman. I'll miss her wonderful taste in craft/art field. Hudson adores all the Beanie Babies he got from her...he sleeps with them, plays with them, brings them to show & tell.
