WATERMAN – Marion Evelyn Johnson, 83, of Waterman, Ill., died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.|
Born July 3, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Otto W. and Hulda E. (Olson) Lindberg, Marion married Ralph L. Johnson on Nov. 2, 1947, in Sycamore.
A member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, where she was a member of several church groups, and DeKalb County Home Extension, Marion volunteered at DeKalb County Nursing Home, despite injuries from a severe auto accident several years ago. She was a life member of Northern Illinois Steam Power Club and a member of Elder Berry in Waterman. Marion loved to travel with her family and had been to all 50 states and to Sweden.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph; five children, Shirley (Vern) Koelling of Grant Park, Bruce (Hedy) Johnson of Rochelle, Carol Johnson of Westmont, Paul (Dawn) Johnson of Stillman Valley and Lori (Curt) Davids of Leaf River; nine grandchildren, Kristin (Michael) deGroot of Oak Park, Erik (Amanda) Koelling of Bradley, Kristofor (Lindsey) Johnson of Cortland, Annalee and Mollie Johnson of Westmont, Maja and Rayna Johnson of Stillman Valley, and Linnea and Callean Davids of Leaf River; great-grandson, Nathan deGroot; brother-in-law, Glen (Donna) Johnson of DeKalb; sister-in-law, Eleanor Pierce of DeKalb; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Nels Benson; and half-siblings, George (Jeanne) Jurgens and Gertrude (Ray) Carlson.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Rob Kinnear officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
