DeKALB – Ralph N. Olesen, 83, of DeKalb, Ill., formerly of Aurora, passed away peacefully Dec. 2, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb, with many loved ones at his side. |
Born July 2, 1929, in Virgil, the son of Chris and Alfreda (Jensen) Olesen, Ralph retired from Jewel Food Stores after 29 years of service. He enjoyed many years as a leader in Cub and Boy Scouts – something he had a great passion for. He also enjoyed woodworking, World War II history, drawing old barns, leather craft and most of all, gatherings with his sons, grandkids and great-grandkids. Family was very important to him.
His passing will leave an unfillable void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly (Orr) Olesen; three sons, Kenneth and Thomas (Barb) of Montgomery, and James (fiancee Judy Miller) of DeKalb; five grandchildren, Melina (Mike) Hendershot of Palo Alto, Calif., Nichole (Tim) Frederick of Fort Meade, Md., Stacy (Brian) Onsager of Yorkville, Kevin Olesen of Mongomery and Amy (Morgan) Carter of DeKalb; and five great-grandchildren, Kali Hendershot of Palo Alto, Drake Frederick of Fort Mead, Mackenzie and Hunter Carter of DeKalb, and Drew Onsager of Yorkville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andy; sister, Laura; and one very precious granddaughter, Sophia Frederick.
At his wish, Ralph will be cremated and a private memorial service and graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
