CORTLAND – Richard Louis Koca Jr., 71, of Cortland, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was a devoted husband, loving father, enthusiastic grandfather, loyal brother, faithful friend and respected teacher.|
Born Sept. 18, 1942, in Chicago, the son of Richard and Rosalyn (Svoboda) Koca, Richard was raised in North Riverside. After receiving his bachelor's degree at Northern Illinois University, he began his teaching career in the Malta School District, continuing until his retirement in 1995. He loved fast cars, traveling, teasing, holidays, a good bargain, basketball, souvenirs, goofy T-shirts, tennis and dessert, but, most of all, his family.
He will always be remembered lovingly by his wife of 50 years, his beloved "Barbie" (Smelter); his children, Rick and Patti, Rob and Ashley; his grandchildren, Julia, Katie, Cassie, Ryker and Kai; brother, Russ and Mary Jo; his brothers-in-law, Greg and Kathy Gallagher and Paul and Ellie Smelter; and nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Jennifer, Matthew, Ashley, Joey, Kasey, and Lisa, along with their families.
The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. The visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Anderson Funeral Home.
