Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Ashton, the daughter to Nels T. and Sarah (Roe) Grover, she graduated from Ashton High School in 1947.
Rita married Clay Mitchell on July 30, 1948, at Rochelle United Methodist Church. She worked for more than 20 years for McCoy Chiropractic Clinic in Sycamore.
She is survived by her four children, Mark (Karen) Mitchell of Kingston, Sarah (James) Dempsey of Oshkosh, Wis., Charles Mitchell of Adeline and the Rev. Timothy (Jody) Mitchell of West Chicago; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Roe and Neil; and four sisters, Charlene, Phyllis, Barbara and Doris.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon, with the Rev. Alan L. Meyer, Pastor of Reynolds United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at Lighthouse Cemetery.
