Shirlee J. Dailey

Shirlee J. Dailey, 91, of Sycamore, formerly of rural Kingston passed away Thursday, May 24 at Oak Crest Retirement Center.

Shirlee was born in Elgin, IL the daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Bowker) Funk and attended Northern Illinois University where she met her husband of 62 years, J. Quentin. Married on Aug 14, 1946 they began their life on the farm where she was in charge of the fresh egg business and roadside produce stand in addition to the many jobs as a farm wife. Shirlee also was legendary for their annual 4th of July pool parties.

Affectionately known as Grandma Sunshine, the Picture Lady, or simply the "life of the party", Shirlee loved life. She collected friends and enjoyed time spent with her football group, tennis ladies, and her many Florida friends. But her main focus was as the matriarch of her family; a role she took on with love, humor, and compassion.

Shirlee is survived by two daughters, Sue (Steve) Appleby of rural Kingston and Martha ( Dennis J.) Collins of DeKalb; six grandchildren, Kate Appleby (Bart Lawson), Beth (Jeff) Bridger all of Genoa, Sarah Appleby, John (Melissa) Collins of Keller, TX, Christy (Greg Norton) Collins of Boston, MA, Will Collins of Watertown, SD; seven great grandchildren, Alyssa Jennings, Trace and Lucas Feliciano, Brynn, Beau and Blake Bridger all of Genoa and Jack Collins of Keller, TX.

In addition, her family would like to thank her personal care giver, Amy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin in 2008, her parents and two brothers.

Private burial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Creston. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 24 at Kishwaukee Country Club from 4:00 to 6:00 pm where all are welcome.

A memorial is being established. In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made to in honor of Blake Bridger. www.luriechildrens.org.
