Susan A. Huhta, age 71, of Sycamore, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018 in the Swedish American Hospital in Belvidere, IL. She was born on December 27, 1946 in Chicago, IL, and was the daughter of Frank and Esther (Jeschke) Perr

Married Harry Huhta in 1969, Hillside, IL. Three sons, Hans (Amy), Newport News, VA (Step grandchildren Alyssa & Kayla); Joel, Belvidere, (grandson, Spencer; granddaughter, Courtney) Kirk (Amanda), Marana, AZ. (grandsons, Walter, Aarne, granddaughter, Virginia). Sister, Judy (Keith Lantinen, Elgin) (nephew, Wayne Lantinen; niece, Kristen Dalton).

Niles West High School, Skokie- Student Conductor, Drum Major, Illinois All-State Band for 4 years. Degrees (B.M.) Bachelor of Music, (M.M.) Master of Music, (Ed.D) Adult Education-Human Resource Development. All from Northern Illinois University.

Played French horn in North shore Concert Band of Wilmette; Evanston Civic Orchestra; other various orchestras in Chicago suburbs; Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra; Fox Valley Symphony, Aurora.

Taught music in DeKalb Schools for 32 years including: Clinton Rosette Middle School band director; elementary general music; beginning strings; elementary choruses; Music Coordinator 2000-2006. Waubonsee Community College: private horn lessons; Music for elementary teachers; classroom group piano. DeKalb Municipal Band French horn since 1969. DeKalb Municipal Band: in 2010 assumed duties of Publicist and Music Research (for audience concert notes)

Cofounder of Kishwaukee Concert Band in 2002. Remained as key facilitator until 2017 and then continued as on the Board of Directors as Vice-President of Music and Programs. Certified Healing Harps Therapist.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church- From 1970-2000, she directed the Adult Choirs, Children's choirs and Hand bell Choirs. From 2000-2017 scheduled Special Summer Music and worked with all aspects of organs, pianos, hiring choir directors.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00am in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in DeKalb with Pastor Elizabeth Mascal officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 8:30am till the time of the service in the church.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115 (815) 758-3841.
