DeKALB – Verdell A. Nitz, 84, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center in DeKalb.|
Born Oct. 30, 1929, in Tampico, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Neilssen) O'Brien, Verdell married William Nitz on July 14, 1952, in Chicago.
She was a school nurse for many years. Verdell also was an artist who enjoyed painting and gardening. She enjoyed craft shows with her husband, Bill, in retirement.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Christa (Justin) McGrath and William Wallace, both of DeKalb; great-grandchild, Leah; and son-in-law, James Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; daughter, Patricia Wallace; parents; brothers, Edward and Roy O'Brien; and sisters, Evelyn Hansen and Florence Prager.
Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory. A memorial visitation service will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at White Pines Inn, Oregon, Illinois. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Grand Detour Cemetery.
