DR. VICTOR F. BARRESI Obituary
SYCAMORE – Dr. Victor F. Barresi, 77, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2014, at home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born to the late Jasper and Teresa (Drago) Barresi, on June 27, 1936, in Pekin.
Victor received a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Mexico in 1958 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loyola Dental School in 1962. He completed his post-graduate work in oral surgery at Loyola and a residency at Cook County Hospital, in Chicago. He also completed a four-year fellowship in anesthesia.
Victor served as a captain in the U.S. Army in Tokyo, Japan, from 1966 to 1969. Upon returning to the U.S., he joined a practice in Homewood. In 1971, he established a practice in DeKalb, where he served the community until 2001. After a brief retirement, he continued to practice part-time in Rockford. He was employed by Rockford Dental Care from 2002 to 2008. He opened his own practice in Rockford in 2008, where he continued to practice until recent health issues progressed.
Dr. Barresi previously served as chief of staff at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and was the longest serving president of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He was an active participant in numerous other community organizations.
Victor loved spending time with family and friends, music, traveling, cooking, hunting, golf and to continually learn. He simply loved life.
He is survived by Susan (Stephens) Allen and their three sons: Dominic (Jolene), Roberto (Lisa) and Jay (Christine); and his wife, Marla (Ryen) Barresi, and their daughters: Kate and Anna. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Dillon, Hailey, Hannah, Claire, Luke, Grace, Enzo and Giancarlo; two sisters, Terri Martin and Cora Kirk; and a brother, Dave Barresi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Anthony, Michael and Jasper; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Paul and Sgt. Brett Bouma.
A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, and a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Christ Community Church, 1600 E. Lincoln Highway (Route 38), DeKalb.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Victor's name at DeKalb County Community Foundation. Donations can be mailed to 475 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
