Wayne C. Schmidt, 79, of DeKalb, IL died Friday August 24th, 2018 at Kishwaukee Hospital.

Born, January 12th, 1939, in Sarona, WI, the son of Carl and Mae (Rylander) Schmidt. Wayne married Karen Foss on January 11th, 1964 in Madison, WI.

Wayne and Karen were married 46 years until her passing in 2010. They had two children, Brian (Julie) Schmidt, of Spokane, WA and Beth (Tom) Wienke of Genoa, IL, five grandchildren, Cal, Camryn, Brielle, Bret and Jared. July 30th, 2016 he married Alice Freier. His family grew to include Alice's two children, Denise (Mike) Hester, Scott (Teresa) Listy, seven grandchildren Samantha, Nico, Marisa, Tim (Stephanie), Ben (Cara), Alison, Nathaniel, and one great-grandchild Nolan.

Wayne worked for the phone company, in Illinois and Michigan, for his entire career. He retired with perfect attendance after all those years and was very proud of it.

He liked to play cards and spend time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, was very active in the Sycamore Lion's Club, Elks Club and a long time member of the Masonic Temple.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Alice, of DeKalb; his children, grand children, a sister, Donna of Seattle, WA, two brother-in-laws, John (Lenore) Foss of Lakeland, FL and Tom (Nancy) Felbinger of Romeoville, IL.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

His celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29th at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, with Pastor Preston Fields officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
