Wesley L. Barker, 76, of Sycamore, Ill., died Friday, May 18, 2007, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb.
Born Feb. 22, 1931, in Petroleum, Ind., he was the son of Pleasant W. and Emma L. (Smith) Barker. He married Eleanor Clapp on Nov. 23, 1952, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Wesley was a maintenance supervisor for Northern Illinois University for many years. He was an active member of Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb and was a former director of Youth for Christ group.
Wesley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor, of Sycamore; two daughters, Connie Barker of Hayden, Colo., and Donna (Philip) Beyer of Lake Carroll; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor of DeKalb and Rachel and David Taylor, both of Lake Carroll; three step-grandchildren, Jonah (Christy) Bayer of Katy, Texas, and Amber (Adam) Senn and Heather Beyer, both of Houston, Texas; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha
(Wayne) Smith of Auburn, Ind., and Alzadia (Jack) Will of Buffalo, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb, 150 Bethany Road in DeKalb, with the Rev. Bradley J. Reardon officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.
