DeKALB – Willard Emmet Dobbeck, 100, of DeKalb, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.|
Born Nov. 17, 1912, in Lorain, Ohio, the oldest child of John and Louise (Pratsch) Dobbeck, Willard married Mildred Gordon of Dover, Ohio, on Aug. 14, 1937.
He had a long career in the telephone industry, first working for the Lorain Telephone Company. In 1946, he accepted a position with Leich Electric in Genoa, and moved his young family from Ohio to Illinois. Leich Electric was acquired by GTE Automatic Electric, and he served as factory superintendent there for many years, retiring in 1977.
Willard enjoyed travel, golf and bowling, and was active in community service. He joined the Genoa Lions Club one year after it was founded and continued to attend meetings regularly.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Richard) Beilke; granddaughters, Kathleen (Prakash) Thatte and Kristine (Ross) Oakland; grandsons, Scott Dobbeck and Mark (Alicia) Dobbeck; and great-grandchildren, Dr. Todd (Dr. Marissa Cardwell) Oakland, Sara (Brian) Oakland Bates, Erin Dobbeck, Morgan Dobbeck and Brady Dobbeck.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sister, Lois Dobbeck Oldham; son, David Dobbeck; and grandson, Steven Dobbeck.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst, Ohio.
