DeKALB – William Cecil "Bill" Adkinson, 87, of DeKalb, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.|
Born Aug. 12, 1925, in DeKalb, the son of Otis and Katie (Votaw) Adkinson, William married Sheila Ruth Johnson on Feb. 1, 1947, in DeKalb.
Bill worked at Del Monte and retired from Barber-Greene Co. as a welding foreman. A veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II, he was a member of First Baptist Church of DeKalb and a life member of DeKalb Moose Club. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila; children, the Rev. Rodger (Elaine) Adkinson of Willow Springs, Mo., Douglas Adkinson of DeKalb, Kathy Hartness of DeKalb and Janice (Bill) Bolen of Moorehead, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; and son-in-law, Greg Hartness.
The visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at First Baptist Church, 349 S. Third St., DeKalb, with his son, the Rev. Rodger Adkinson, officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be on a later date.
