DeKALB – John Robert Livingston, 77, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at home.
Born May 20, 1934, in Carlyle, the son of Mark and Eunice (Osborne) Livingston, he married Phyllis Mobley on April 16, 1983, in DeKalb.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1954 to 1958 in the Panama Canal Zone; he returned to Panama from 1964 to 1966 to be employed as a policeman. John retired from Greenlee Textron in Genoa in 2004, and had previously run DeKalb Camera and also worked with his dad in his tool shop.
He was known for his great sense of humor and for loving long conversations with his friends. Music was a big part of John's life; having been in the high school band and earning many medals, he continued by being part of the Air Force Band.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, but the first love of his life was his Lord, in whose arms he now rests.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, William (Laura) Larson of Cortland, Susan Burton of Lee and Timothy (Jill) Larson of Franklin Grove; grandchildren, Josh Burton, Chris Burton, Damion Larson, Domonic Larson, Darien Larson and Tyler Burton; siblings, Paul (Donna) Livingston of Morris, Ann (Don) Hosler of North Aurora, Jerry (Sharon) Livingston of Aurora; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Sherry Holmes and Lori and Devon Buckle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Sunday until the time of service at Anderson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the John R. Livingston Memorial Fund, in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
