Sandra Webster, 74, passed away May 7, 2012, at home in Camarillo, Calif., surrounded by her family. |
Born Sept. 8, 1937, in Kingston, the youngest of four children of Paul Granger Sherman and Nellie Welch Sherman, Sandra attended elementary school in Kingston, and high school in Genoa. Her studies culminated at the University of Illinois, where she majored in education and was an active member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Moving to San Francisco in 1959, Sandra met the love of her life, Kenneth Webster, Commander, USNR (Retired) at the NAS Alameda Officer's Club. She was introduced by Kenneth's good friend and squadron wingman, Stuart, who had the good fortune to be Sandra's older brother. After a whirlwind 11-day courtship, followed by a seven month separation when Kenneth and Stuart embarked on a Western Pacific cruise with VA 22 aboard the USS Midway, Sandra and Kenneth were wed on April 8, 1960, at the Treasure Island Naval Base in San Francisco. Their 52-year marriage produced three sons, Kenneth Jr. (Kaoru) of Camp Zama, Japan, and Thomas (Tammy) and John (Christine), both of Camarillo; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, James, William, Kaity, Sarah, Sean and David; and a great-grandson, Thomas.
Throughout her life, Sandra's greatest love was for her family, both immediate and extended, and they returned her love in full. She remained active throughout her lifetime in Delta Gamma's major philanthropic program, service programs for the blind. Her deep generosity, humanity, charity and faith will be remembered by all whose lives were fortunate to have been touched by hers.
A memorial service in memory of Sandra will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, http://uscnorriscancer.usc.edu/support/.
