DeKALB – Alvin L. Nichols Sr., 83, of DeKalb, Ill., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.|
Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Forrest City, Ark., the son of John and Delia (Adair) Nichols, he married Lee J. Wood on Nov. 26, 1956, in Mississippi.
Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1952. He was a carpenter for many years and then he worked for U.S. Chrome for more than 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling with his family. He will be dearly missed.
Alvin is survived by his son, Alvin L. (Nancy) Nichols Jr. of DeKalb; one daughter, Sandra (Jim) Jackson of Woodstock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lee; and 10 brothers and sisters.
His visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178. A funeral service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating.
