SHABBONA – Carolyn A. Kuhn, 88, of Shabbona, Ill., passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.|
Born June 11, 1925, in Naperville, the daughter of Carl and Loretta (Goetsch) Zietsma, Carolyn was united in marriage to Earl J. Kuhn on Aug. 17, 1946, at St. Peter & Paul Church in Naperville, and they enjoyed the next 64 years together until Earl's death in 2010. Carolyn was a city girl who fell in love with a farmer, and became a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm by having an egg route and raising their five children.
Earl and Carolyn moved from the family farm in Wheaton to Shabbona in 1958. They were active in the Pinochle Club for many years. Carolyn also was in a bowling league. In 1982, they moved to the Indian Oaks subdivision in Shabbona, where Carolyn enjoyed bird watching from her living room.
Carolyn worshipped at St. James Catholic Parish in Lee, where she was a member of the Milan Catholic Ladies Group and Altar and Rosary Society. She also enjoyed singing with the choir.
Survivors include two sons, Steven (Vickie) Kuhn of Bloomington and Carl (Joyce) Kuhn of Shabbona; two daughters, Karen (Parviz) Kavoossi of Upland, Calif., and Donna (Ken) Larsen of Waterford, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Loretta Zietsma; husband, Earl Kuhn; and a son, David Kuhn.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. James Catholic Church in Lee with the Rev. Bonaventure Okoro celebrating. Burial will be at St. James Calvary Cemetery in Lee, following Mass. Visitation for friends and family will start at 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
A memorial is being established.
