Kenneth H. Klock, 93, of Kirkland, Ill., died unexpectedly Friday, March 21, 2014, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill., following surgery.
He was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Hampshire, Ill., the son of Henry and Amelia (Dumoulin) Klock. He met Thelma Lindgren at a church dance in 1945, and they were married April 16, 1947, in Hampshire.
Kenneth was raised and attended school in Hampshire. He worked on the family farm until 1955, when he and his wife decided to pursue farming on their own in New Lebanon. After seven years, they moved to the Marengo area to continue farming. In 1967, they moved the family to Kirkland where they eventually bought some land and built the home they shared for the rest of their almost 68 years together. He was a member of Kirkland United Methodist Church.
Kenneth was proud of his four children, and that his three sons followed in his beloved farming profession. He had a special place in his heart for his only little girl who made the family complete. He loved the many family gatherings, especially "Summer Sundays." He also enjoyed growing a large garden and helping his children any way he could. He was a farmer at heart and continued to help his "boys" with farming after he retired in 1987. During retirement, he also enjoyed their camping club and the friends they made.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Klock; two sons, Gordon (Carolyn) Klock and Dennis (Debbie) Klock; one daughter, Linda (Garry) Willit; daughter-in-law, Jean Klock, all of Kirkland; nine grandchildren, Julie, Jeff, Jeremy, Brian, Kristin, Joanna, Megan, Michael and Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Riley, Wyatt and Kamdin; and another due in April; and one brother, Arlo (Doris) Klock of Hamsphire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Klock in 2006; three brothers, Robert, Donald and Maurice; and sister, Ruby Gorenz.
The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Quiram Kirkland Chapel in Kirkland. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at First United Methodist Church in Kirkland, with the Rev. Melissa Meyers of Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland.
A memorial fund has been established for First United Methodist Church and Kirkland Community Fire Department's Rescue Squad. For information or to leave a message of condolence, visit www.olsonfh.com or call or 815-522-3563.
