DeKALB – James W. Bannister 83, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.|
He was born May 17, 1930, in DeKalb, the son of Charles W. and Esther (Lindeberg) Bannister.
James graduated from DeKalb Township High School, class of 1948. James served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He lived in DeKalb his whole life and worked as an iron worker with Local 393 before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing. He was a member of the VFW Post 2287 in DeKalb.
Survivors include four children, Kathy Kivisto of Polo, Jeff Bannister of DeKalb, Patsy (Steve) Walley of DeKalb and Hope (Kevin) Donley of Montgomery; five grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Jennifer, Kevin and Alyssa; six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Maya, Kayla, Elijah, Addilyn and Emily; and one brother, Ronald Bannister.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dolores (Hart) Turk; brothers, George and Charles; an infant sister, Karen; stepson, Ricky Bennett; and son-in-law, Kevin Kivisto.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 511 Russell Road, DeKalb, with Pastor Ray Krueger officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb with full military honors by DeKalb VFW, American Legion and AmVets. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Saturday, until the time of service at the church.
Memorials can be made to the family to be established at a later date.
