DeKALB – Marguerite Jane (Medder) Spear, 95, of DeKalb, Ill., went to be with her Lord March 26, 2014.|
Born Dec. 6, 1918, in Venice, Ill., to Leonard Medder and Georgia (Kepley) Medder- Eblin, Marguerite began her family with Lowell Davis of Dixon and later married Robert Spear on Oct. 11, 1951, in DeKalb.
Marguerite was a vagabond at heart, world traveler and jack of all trades. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her home. Her residences ranged from Fairbanks, Alaska, nestled under the lights of the Aurora Borealis, to the countryside of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. Her occupations were as numerous as the songs she loved to sing.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Jean Roof of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Deanna Lynch of Salem, Ill.; sister, Louise Donoho of LaMoille; sister-in-law, Jean "Johnny" Spear of Marengo; six grandchildren, Lela (Scott) Roof of Ohio, Anthoney Roof and Cynthia (Shawn) Pasley of Alaska, Chuck (Joella) Lynch of DeKalb, Cheryl (Jim) Pearre of Cortland and Dawn (Will) Awe of Huntley; 21 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and a large, loving extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother-in-law, Fred Spear; sisters, Gladys Medder and Letha Rose; and granddaughter, Theresa Clay.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with Pastor Eric Mangek of Victory Baptist Church, DeKalb, officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home.
