1925 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
DeKALB – James Robert "Jim" Rourke, 88, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.
Born July 7, 1925, in DeKalb, the son of Lugean "Bud" and Doris (Ferguson) Rourke, Jim married Helen Mae Anderson on Feb. 25, 1950.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Duplex Products in Sycamore for 35 years. Jim owned and operated Rourke's Appliance Sales & Service for many, many years, and has owned and operated the U-Wash Laundromat in DeKalb for the last 36 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; children, Bob (Lynne Smith) Rourke, Diane (Mike) Calbow, David (Dana) Rourke and Gail (Brad) Fry; grandchildren, Ryan Parsons, Elizabeth (Nick) Blondell, Cameron Calbow, Chris Calbow, Megan Fry, Aly Fry, Patrick Rourke and Emma Rourke; great-grandchildren, Justin and Adam Blondell, and Gavin Parsons; brother, Gene (DeDe) Rourke; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with full military honors by American Legion, AmVets and VFW. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
