DeKALB – Helen L. Reinemann, 95, of DeKalb, Ill., died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.|
She was born June 5, 1918, in Lone Rock, Wis., the eldest daughter of Reinhardt and Lena (Peterson) Simonson. In Madison, Helen met U.S. Marine Martin Reinemann on a blind date when they attended a University of Wisconsin football game. They were married Aug. 11, 1942, in San Diego, Calif., while Marty was home on leave.
They moved in 1947 to DeKalb, where they raised five children and enjoyed many years of NIU life, church activities, family travels and bridge clubs. Helen was a dedicated Christian, hardworking, uncomplaining and generous to those in need. Helen was a tireless volunteer at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kishwaukee Hospital and the DeKalb County Nursing Home. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, ice cream and reading.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Lynda) Reinemann of Chilton, Wis., Mary (Scott) Kirkconnell of Russellville, Ark., Marcia Walker of Lafayette, Colo., and Richard (Nancy) Reinemann of Cedarburg, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Deborah Reinemann; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marty; eldest son, James Reinemann; and sister, Charlotte Helker.
The family thanks the staff and volunteers at Oak Crest and DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center for the care that they gave Helen.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 511 Russell Road, DeKalb, with the Rev. Ray Krueger officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.
