DeKALB – Gloria Beverly Janke, 86, of DeKalb, Ill., died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.|
Born June 18, 1927, in Eau Claire, Wis., the daughter of Kenneth E. and Ethel C. (Anderson) Thorn, Gloria married Vernon C. Janke on Aug. 1, 1953, in Eau Claire.
During World War II, Gloria made fuses for bombs at Presto Fuses in Eau Claire. She later worked at Ralph's Newstand and then at Farm & Fleet, both in DeKalb. After her retirement, she enjoyed being a housewife.
A charter member of Westminster Presbyterian, she also was a member of DeKalb County Homemakers Extension, Ladies of the Elks and Dames Club at Northern Illinois University.
She is survived by her children, George (Mary) Janke, Julie (James) Krueger, Susan (Daniel) Carr and Kristal (Brent) Coffie; grandsons, William Coffie, Dillon Lynch, Daniel Janke and Jeffrey Krueger; step-grandsons, Trevor and Ryan Carr; sister, Emily Holm; and brother, Norman Thorn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, in 2003, and her parents.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 10, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, with the Rev. Blake K. Richter officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Rest Haven Gardens, Eau Claire. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
