SYCAMORE – Marilyn Y. (Bergeron) Gehrke, 79, of Sycamore, Illinois, formerly of Hemet, California, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. |
She was born Jan. 29, 1935, in DeKalb, the daughter of Leonard and Ethel (Lawrence) Bergeron.
Marilyn retired from Kaiser Permanente Hospital in California. After her retirement, she realized that she was a very gifted artist and crafted beautiful items. She especially enjoyed doing ceramics and quilting. Marilyn also had a love for singing and playing music. She performed in many shows, playing the ukulele. She was a member of the Ukulele Club in California.
Survivors include her three daughters, Deborah (Ed) Heaney, Toni (Dan) Jensen and Barbara (Tim) Howe; six grandchildren, Cliff (Rania) Heaney, Lori (Doug) Stewart, Dan (Vanessa) Jensen, Nicole Jensen, Brian (Amanda) Howe and Jennifer (Jon) Ashbaugh; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Mary Lou) Bergeron and Leonard (Yvonne) Bergeron; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald E. Gehrke; and one sister, Nancy Rockstead.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson St., in Sycamore, with the Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
