MYRTLE A. DUNCAN-HANSEN Obituary
DeKALB – Myrtle A. Duncan-Hansen, 77, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away peacefully while sleeping Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at home. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Born March 29, 1937, in Madison, North Carolina, Myrtle was raised in Tennessee and moved to DeKalb in 1957. She married Willard Duncan on June 14, 1952; after his passing in 1989, she married Donald Hansen on Oct. 21, 1993.
She is remembered for her great love for Christ, her encouraging spirit and gift of hospitality. She was a lover of music, gardening and family. Myrtle was a creative entrepreneur delving into many business endeavors, including being known for years as the peanut brittle lady in DeKalb County. She was a long-time member of Cathedral of Praise in DeKalb, where she taught Sunday school and directed a children's choir.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Willard Duncan Jr., Teresa Duncan, Debra Sue (Bill) Davis, Cyndi Duncan, Lisa (Bob) Holloway, Cheri (Mike) Nelson, Bobbie (Jim) Miller, Donald (Renee) Hansen and Angie Hansen; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brothers, Bobby (Susie) Gosnell and Charles (Hadie) Gosnell; and sisters, Barbara (Jimmy) Frye and Joann Bowman.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Franklin Duncan Sr.; mother, Sudie Ricker; siblings, Sue Ellen Gosnell, Martha Mae Peters and Paul Eugene Gosnell; and grandchildren, Michael Hansen and Andrea Renea Roach.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, with the funeral service immediately afterward. The Rev. Eric Wyzard of Cathedral of Praise will officiate.
