SYCAMORE – Robert A. Kammes, 87, of Sycamore, Illinois, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, peacefully at his daughter's home.|
Born Dec. 29, 1926, in Aurora, the son of John and Anna (Konen) Kammes of Wheaton, he married Mary Brummel 66 years ago April 21, 1948, in Naperville. She was the love of his life.
He was a lifelong farmer on his many family farms, doing what he loved. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working as a crossing guard in DeKalb and was a former school bus driver.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandpa who loved to travel and go camping with his family. He was a member of the Farm Bureau bowling league from 1962 to 1975 and the Grange.
Robert was a die-hard Cubs fan and liked to attend and watch various sports games.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Jim (Peggy), Jane (Louie) Curce, Jeff (Terry), Greg (Theresa), Brian (Ronda) and Brad (Lisa); 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian (Kammes) Brummel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Marie; son, Mark Steven; one grandson, Billy Joe; three brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 244 Waterman St., in Sycamore. A visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon and time to greet the family will follow the Mass at the church.
