DeKALB – Alicia Flores-Mendez, 80, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Provena Mercy Medical Center, Aurora. |
Born Dec. 29, 1933, in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Jose and Catalina (Mendez) Flores.
Alicia was formerly employed at Brody Sycamore Coats and later at General Electric in DeKalb. She was a member of Newman Catholic Student Center – Christ the Teacher Parish.
She is survived by her brother, Jose Flores of DeKalb; one sister, Emerida Betancort of DeKalb; one niece; two nephews; and eight great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Laudelina E. Flores; and her brother-in-law, Abelrdo "Mr. B" Betancourt.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Matthew McMorrow of the Newman Center and the Rev. Vanessa H. Betancourt of Village of the Nazarene, Indianapolis, Indiana, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
