Patricia J. Dahlberg, 86, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014.|
She was born June 14, 1928, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry Robert and Mary Ellen (Neenan) Munro. She married John Shafer on July 7, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Richard E. Dahlberg on August 20, 1955.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, where she served in a variety of offices. One of her outreach activities was the food pantry, for three years, 1983-1986, at First Lutheran.
She was an active member in the League of Women Voters. She was given the Water Conservationist award. While on the City of DeKalb Committee, she was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Water Commission, and later chaired the Water Committee, Recycling Committee and Corn Festival 1984.
A former president of University Women's Club at NIU, she held a number of other offices. Pat was a former member of the DeKalb Handicap Housing Committee, a Development Campaign member for DeKalb County for Nachusa Lutheran Home in DeKalb, a member of Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary, a member and past president of DeKalb County Mental Health 708 Board from 1982-1991, an elected member of DeKalb County Board from 1982-1984 and was active in Democratic elections and activities, a member of Ellwood House and marathon, and worked at the NIU International Student Office from 1972-1976 and one year, 1977-1978, at the Graduate School.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen A. (Gary) Hegranes of Antigo, Wisconsin; sons, K. Erik (Linda) Dahlberg of Hanover Park and John M. (Jaime) Dahlberg of Bellevue, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Douglas, Corey, Kristen, Sarah, Courtney, Alysia, Emily and Tyana; great-grandchildren, Paige, Charles, Breanne, Rylan and Teagon; great-granddaughter, Briana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard E. Dahlberg; and daughter, Patricia Carol Wildt.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Dr. Janet Hunt of First Lutheran Church, DeKalb, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
