Walter O. Wilson, Jr., 98, of Sycamore died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center. |
He was born April 20, 1916 in Clare, Illinois, the son of Walter O. and Ethel M. (Nelson) Wilson, Sr. He married Doris Ellen Lee on June 22, 1940 in Sycamore.
Walter was one of the last four students of the Clare first grade class of 1922. He was a graduate of the Sycamore High School, Class of 1933. He worked as a truck driver for Keeshin Trucking, farmed the century old family farm (1884-1984) in Mayfield Twp. for many years and retired from Aurora Packing Co. in 1981. After his retirement, he drove for Med Vac for several years.
He was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau, Salem Lutheran Church of Sycamore and former member of the Batavia Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his one son, David W. (Barbara) Wilson of Bloomington; one daughter, Janet L. (Eldon) Cullison of Maple Park; 4 grandchildren, Eric (Ali) Wilson of Nashville, TN, Mike Cullison of Malta, Debbie Cullison and Brenda (Brian) Jones all of Sycamore; 2 great grandchildren, David and Krysten Jones; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2010; one brother, Harold Wilson and one sister, Betty Kleveland.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, July 18 at 12 p.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, with Rev. Robert C. Kinnear officiating.
Visitation will be on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.
