SYCAMORE – Frances M. Scott, 93, of Sycamore, Illinois, died peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.|
Born March 20, 1921, in Sycamore, daughter of Arthur and Nora (Dahltorp) Palm, Fran graduated from Sycamore High School in 1939. Soon after graduation, she married George J. Scott on July 4, 1939, when they eloped to Charles City, Iowa. For more than 50 years they made their home on Airport Road in rural Sycamore.
Fran was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and a past member of Ohio Grove Grange. In the mid-1950s, Fran opened Scotty's Lunch Room on the corner of State and Governor Street in Sycamore. This was a popular place with the high school students and employees of Brown's Grocery store when the old high school was located in that neighborhood. After selling the Lunch Room in the mid-1960s, she worked as a waitress and hostess at the current Sorrento's Restaurant and then worked in retail clothing sales in a local department store, helping many residents with their fashion needs.
Fran was very proud of her Swedish/Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed cooking, baking and making traditional Scandinavian dishes for the holidays, especially Rosettes. Visiting around the table, whether on the farm with families, or with the ""Giddie Biddies"" at a local restaurant, she always enjoyed a good meal, a laugh and a game of cards.
Fran was blessed with a loving and caring family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Sally) Scott of Sycamore; daughter, Diane Carter and special friend, Henry Houck, of Oswego; three grandchildren, Stacy (Bob) Pearcy of Clare, Pamelyn (Joe) Grimaldi of Yorkville and Kari (Dustin) Coppes of Oswego; eight great-grandchildren, Kimberly Pearcy of Columbia, Missouri, Nicole Pearcy of Bloomington, Indiana, Hunter Coppes of Aurora, Kamryn and Rylee Coppes of Oswego, Joseph Grimaldi Jr. of Chicago, and Brock and Caden Grimaldi of Yorkville; brother, Arthur (Nora) Palm of Mesquite, Nevada; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Elvina Palm Merriman and Dorothy Palm Tuomi.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Thornton, the nursing staff at Kishwaukee Hospital, and the Kish Health System Hospice Staff for the special care they provided during Fran's time of need.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Quiram Olson Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore. A celebration of Fran's life will be conducted by Pastor Harlene Harden of Sycamore United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ohio Grove Cemetery, Sycamore.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kish Health System Hospice.
